Just like Simon Petrikov Making a Little Girl Cry is really a perfect demonstration of just how badly he’s been doing, that little scene with Wyatt is a perfect demonstration of the same with Prismo.

I mean, compare this…

And the deeply ironic thing is, it seems like the implication is that Prismo’s depression was brought on by the grief of Jake’s death. But Prismo’s consideration and careful attitude toward his would-be wishers is what allowed him to make friends with Jake in the first place.

I mean this is Wyatt and we all know Wyatt kinda sucks, but the implication here seems to be that this is how Prismo treats all of his guests right now. So it’s like, well, Prismo’s depressive spiral is drawing him farther and farther away from who he was and the thing that made him happy in the first place…

I wonder if we’re going to see more from Ice Thing in this show. I guess I doubt it because we literally just started the Multiverse Hopping part of the adventure and it seems like it’s going to be a while before we make it back to Ooo - but he really is something that could play an interesting part in Simon’s character arc.

Because he really is the idealized version of Ice King. Not in the way that the Ice Prince of Fionna’s dream was - a basically unrelated sexyman with an icy coat of paint.

Ice Thing really is just… Ice King without the Bad Parts. Just a happy-go-lucky Ice Wizard who is kinda silly and wacky. 

Without all the parts where Ice King was legitimately miserable most of the time and often caused real harm to those around him.

And he’s happily married to a Princess who loves him! Literally the one thing Ice King always wanted.

Ice Thing is basically… like what Finn and Jake and Marceline were working towards with Ice King before Betty just turned him back into Simon. Still Ice King, but simply a happier and healthier Ice King. 

I wonder if the reason why so many people in Ooo seem to have a kinda rose-tinted view of what Ice King was like is because they keep comparing Simon to Ice Thing instead on some subconscious level. Because it’s important to remember that while Ice King got closer to being content and happy and harmless as the show went on, he never quite managed to reach the state of where Ice Thing seems to be in.

Ice Thing is both a reminder of the life Simon lost when he regained his old identity, but also a reminder of just how far away he always was from that level of happiness.
